Monthly Grammar: Animals in a sentence

For this month, I will create a sentence based on my post about animals. If you want to know more about animals in Japanese, you can check the link here.
These sentences are included in my recent upload on YouTube about animals in Japanese. There will be only 10 animals for today’s post.

Now let’s the 10 animals in a sentence.

1. Insect

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
むし	Mushi	虫

Sample sentence:
わたしはむしがこわいです。
(私は虫が怖いです。)
(Watashi ha mushi ga kowai desu.)
I am afraid of insects.

Vocabularies: わたし (私) – I (Japanese pronoun) は – Japanese particle (Topic marker) が – Japanese particle (Subject marker) こわい (怖い) – Afraid or Scared です – to be (Japanese copula)

2. Dog

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
いぬ	Inu	犬

Sample sentence:
いぬがだいすきです。
(犬が大好きです。)
(Inu ga daisuki desu.)
I love dogs.

Vocabularies: が – Japanese particle (Subject marker) だいすき (大好き) – Like very much (very fond of) です – to be (Japanese copula)

3. Shellfish

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
かい	Kai	貝

Sample sentence:

かいがんでかいをみました。
(海岸で貝を見ました。)
(Kaigan de kai wo mimashita.)
I saw a shellfish in the shore.

Vocabularies: かいがん (海岸) – Shore・Coast・Beach で – Japanese particle (Action marker) を – Japanese particle (Object marker) みました (見ました) – Saw (past tense of みます)

4. Cow

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
うし	Ushi	牛

Sample sentence:
これはうしです。
(これは牛です。)
(Kore ha ushi desu)
This is a cow.

Vocabularies: これ  – This は – Japanese particle (Topic marker) です – to be (Japanese copula)

5. Fish

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
さかな	Sakana	魚

Sample sentence:
さかなとチップスがたべたいです。
(魚とチップスが食べたいです。)
(Sakana to chippusu ga tabetai desu.)
I want to eat fish and chips.

Vocabularies: と  –  Japanese particle (connector) チップス – Chips   が – Japanese particle (Subject marker) たべたい (食べたい) – wants to eat です – to be (Japanese copula)

6. Horse

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
うま	Uma	馬

Sample sentence:

あのうまはとてもうつくしい。
(あの馬はとても美しい。)
(Ano uma ha totemo utsukushii.)

That horse is so beautiful.

Vocabularies: あの  – That (That over there) は – Japanese particle (Topic marker) とても – very, extremely うつくしい (美しい) – Beautiful

7. Bird

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
とり	Tori	鳥

Sample sentence:

これはとりです。
(これは鳥です。)
(Kore ha tori desu.)
This is a bird.

Vocabularies: これ  – This   は – Japanese particle (Topic marker) です – to be (Japanese copula)

8. Cat

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
ねこ	Neko	猫

Sample sentence:

わたしのねこはおおきいです。
(私の猫は大きいです。)
(Watashi no neko ha ookii desu.)
My cat is big.

Vocabularies: わたし (私) – I (Japanese pronoun) の – Japanese particle (noun modifier) は – Japanese particle (Topic marker) おおきい (大きい) – Big です – to be (Japanese copula)

9. Mouse

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
ねずみ	Nezumi	鼠

Sample sentence:

あそこにねずみがいます。
 (あそこに鼠がいます。)
(Asoko ni nezumi ga imasu.)
There is a mouse over there.

Vocabularies: あそこ – Over there に – Japanese particle (Location marker) が – Japanese particle (Subject marker) います – to exist

10. Tiger

Japanese	Romaji	Kanji
とら	Tora	虎

Sample sentence:

あのとらはちいさいです。
(あの虎は小さいです。)
(Ano tora ha chiisai desu.)
That tiger is small.

Vocabularies: あの – That (That over there) は – Japanese particle (Topic marker) ちいさい (小さい) – small です – to be (Japanese copula)
