Word of the Week: Week 16

For this week, the word of the week is:

ひゃく
(hyaku)

Hundred

The On-Yomi is ひゃく (hyaku). As this is Kanji originated as a Chinese character, there is no Kun-yomi for 百.
百 in 八百屋 is read as やおや (Yaoya). This is like a special reading for the Kanji 百. 八百屋 means Vegetable shop in English.

Daiso is the largest 100-yen shop or 百円ショップ in Japan. I love going to Daiso. There are a lot of stuff to choose.

ダイソーはひゃくえんショップです。
(ダイソーは百円ショップです。)
(Daiso- ha hyaku en shoppu desu.)
Daiso is a 100-yen shop.

わたしはとうきょうにひゃっかいいきました。
(私は東京に百回行きました。)
(Watashi ha toukyou ni hyakkai ikimashita.)
I went to Tokyo a hundred times.
