Let’s talk about Japanese Verbs – Ru-Verbs

For today’s blog, I will continue my Japanese verbs post. Let’s talk about Ru-verbs. I already discussed in my previous post, link here, that Ru-verbs are called Ichidan Verb (一段動) or one-step verbs. Unlike U-verbs in which the U-line will be changed into five vowel sounds when we conjugate the verbs, Ru-verbs will be replaced with a new verb ending.

Example:

Ru-Verbs (Basic form):
Polite form: ます

Two types of Ichidan verbs:

* Kami-Ichidan (上一段)

-          Verbs end in ~いる.

* Shimo-Ichidan (下一段)

-         Verbs end in ~える .

We will only focus on verbs. Verb conjugation will be discussed in future blogs.
