Clothes in Japanese

Clothes in Japanese

For today’s blog, let's talk about different types of clothes in Japanese.

In Japan, there are two types of clothing: わふく (和服 / Wafuku) is the traditional clothing, and ようふく (洋服 / Youfuku) is western clothing.

きもの (着物 / Kimono) is the national dress of Japan. ゆかた (浴衣 / Yukata) is an informal type of Kimono worn in casual events like summer festivals. ゆかた means bathrobe and wore in bathhouses.

I will not be going to discuss わふく as I am not familiar with Japans traditional clothing except for Kimono and Yukata.

ふく ( / Fuku) is the Japanese of clothes while いりょうひん (衣料品 / Iryouhin) is clothing or apparel. いりょうひんてん (衣料品店 / Iryouhinten) means clothing store. きせいふく (既製服 / kiseifuku) means ready-to-wear or ready-made garments.

Now, let’s check the Japanese for a different type of clothes.
