Holy week

It’s a bit late but let’s talk about Holy Week.

Holy week is the most sacred week in Christianity. Holy week begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.

In Japan, they don’t have Holy week and they don’t celebrate it the same way how we; Christians commemorate it. Though our company understands the importance of Holy week to us that’s why it is always resting on us.

In our company calendar, Holy week starting from Maundy Thursday until Good Friday will always be a rest day. It is written asウィ (read as Ho-Ri Ui-Ku). ウィ is pronounce as ‘wi’.

Let’s check the translation of Holy week in Japanese.

Holy week begins with the entry to Jerusalem hence the Palm Sunday is translated as エルサレム入城の日. エルサレム means Jerusalem while入城の日 is the day of entry. The last supper is on Maundy Thursday and Passion of Christ is on Good Friday. Accordingly, Christ died on the Good Friday at 3 PM and the day of his Resurrection from death is on Easter Sunday.

The celebration of Holy week varies in different countries with different traditions.

In our Family, we usually attend the procession of the passion of Christ on Maundy Thursday. Good Friday is the most solemn day of the week as it is the day of the crucifixion of Christ. Meat is not allowed during holy week. Kinds of seafood and vegetables are preferred during the week.

'For GOD so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have Eternal Life.'
